We kick off our time in Colorado with some special family time. This post will step away from our quest momentarily and provide a brief summary of our time together. There’s still a little drama though, as Mom nearly burns off my hand and we visit the place that is unequivocally the best thing on planet Earth.
Stair-ing Down New Mexico
New Mexico is up! This state is home to song place 81 of 92, Santa Fe. In this post, we try our best to stay on Route 66, spend way too much time talking about a staircase, experiment with Los Alamos, enter a cliff dwelling and make another Oklahoma reconnection.
A Ton of Texas
Our journey continues with a multi-faceted phase in the Lonestar State. We connect with old friends, explain the challenges of hospitality, dodge a truck, conquer a canyon, survey some signs and see all there is to see in song place 80 of 92, Amarillo. This is a big update for a big state!
Houston: The Least Worst Big City
Our journey continues in place 79 of 92: Houston, Texas. We get adopted by a new family, Annie gets stoned, we turn our eyes to the stars and I celebrate my third birthday on the road.
Uncle Jerry and Hurricane Barry
Goodness gracious! We visit Ferriday, Louisiana, hometown of Jerry Lee Lewis. We see as much of Bayou State as possible, while still dodging a hurricane. We also come as close as we (hopefully) ever will to losing Annie into a swamp.
Surprising Snow in Shreveport
Though it never seems to dip below 90 degrees in Louisiana, we still get to see some Snow. In this post we visit song place Shreveport, fall in love with a tree, learn the history of “The Great Raft,” kick off a water ski and try to determine the perfect way to say “Louisiana.”
Good Times and Ragtimes
Our time in Oklahoma comes to a conclusion and I make my way to Texarkana, song place 75 of 92. We check out Oklahoma City, announce the only sponsor that we will accept and get up close and personal with Scott Joplin’s piano.
Two Bikers Walk Into a Quilt Shop….
No, that isn’t the beginning of one of my insufferable jokes. It is the beginning of my experience in song place 74 of 92, Hennessey, Oklahoma. In this post we knit together some new friendships and are patched up by the generosity of strangers. Let’s get on with the sew!
Getting the Heck Into Dodge
Move over, Wyatt Earp. A new Marshal is riding into town. He may not have any skills with a pistol, but he’s fully loaded with enthusiasm. He doesn’t know how to ride a horse, but he sits astride the West’s most steadfast steed. Dodge City, place 73 of 92, is up!
Wichita Whirlwind
Our journey continues with a quick visit to Wichita. We meet the Keeper of the Plains, learn what a “Shocker” is, sleep through a tornado warning and meet the best people Wichita has to offer.
