When you’re from Nebraska, waking up to a volcanic eruption is kind of a big deal. When you’re from Antigua Guatemala, it’s just another regular Thursday.
The Loveliest of Lakes
Our journey continues at Lake Atilan, one of the most picturesque places in the world. We do some paddling, some dancing and succeed in not getting run over by a tuk-tuk.
Back in the Saddle
This post features a return to riding, defiant urination, a real Central American border crossing, creative corn sales-girls and inconsiderate bovines.
Patching Up in Palenque
We take some R & R time in the city of Palenque, eventually gaining enough strength to visit the famous ruins of the Mayan city.
12 Hours in Chiapas
A crash. Good people. An archaeological site. Some Italians. Road blockades. Landslides. Pig crossings….A lot can happen in 12 hours.
Quakes
In this episode, we visit some sights in the state of Chiapas. This place was hit hard by an earthquake in September, but still has tons of natural and created beauty. Also during this time, my stomach attempted to reenact said earthquake.
Final Crash Update
The pity train is arriving at the station. Prepare to disembark.
Crash update
On the road to recovery.
Crash
We go down, but not for the count. Annie and I are both a little banged up, but I hope the journey will continue.
Beauty and the Beach
Our beaches get even more beautiful as we continue. We get to experience a sunrise over the Pacific, something very rare in the Western Hemisphere. Even now as I look at the pictures, I’m surprised I’m not still there. 🙂
